Preamble
This Charter is established in response to a defining challenge of the modern information age: the explosive growth of digitized information, which has resulted in a global state of “Information overload .”. This condition, where the sheer volume of electronic data surpasses the human capacity for effective organization and access, necessitates a new paradigm of professional expertise. In this context, the Association of Internet Research Specialists (AOFIRS) was founded in March 2014 by a dedicated group of volunteer Internet research professionals.
The founding vision of the Association was to address the urgent demand for specialized training and to create a unified professional platform for a field that had, until then, been a disparate “cottage industry with a low impact value”. By establishing a formal body for education, credentialing, and ethical oversight, the Association seeks to elevate online research into a recognized and respected profession.
This Charter is founded upon the guiding philosophy that in all serious research work, the qualitative measures of information —its relevance, accuracy, and reliability —must take precedence over the sheer quantitative volume of data produced by Internet searches. This principle is the cornerstone of the profession and justifies the necessity of specialized skills and rigorous standards.
Furthermore, this Charter affirms the Association’s unwavering commitment to the future. AOFIRS positions itself at the forefront of technological adaptation in research, mandating the deep integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, and big data methodologies into its standards and practices. This forward-looking mandate ensures that its members are not merely participants in the digital age but are “future-ready” leaders equipped to navigate its complexities with precision and integrity.
