Television Advertising and Online Search

It is difficult to overstate the importance of television. The average American household contains 2.6 people and 2.5 televisions (Nielsen 2011, U.S. Census Bureau 2011). Television remains the most trusted source of news and information by a wide margin (Danaher and Rossiter 2011, eMarketer 2012). The average American watches 5.1 hours of television per day, more than the 4.6 self-reported daily hours spent on all work-related, educational, and housework activities (Nielsen 2011, Bureau of Labor Statistics 2011). The typical consumer is exposed to about 29 minutes of paid television advertising per day
