For students there are several ways they can minimize such copyright risks. They can come under the Fair Use policy or Permission Granted for Use. For more information on both of these topics you can go through the link below.

I guess an option could be to use the Fair use use clause. I also think you should consider that according to Consortium of College & University Media Centers, students must display the copyright ownership information if it is available in the original source. But actually, internet resources often combine both copyrighted and public domain sites. You should take care in downloading anything. Maybe you can write for permission to use Internet resources and include embedded additional links to that particular site.

I am a student, and I came across some really great videos online for a project. Trouble is I have no idea how to determine the copyrights of videos from these websites. Please help, this project is a big portion of my grade.
