ICamelback Mountainn 2015, our annual conference – IR 16 – will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA from October 21-24, 2015. The theme for this year’s conference is “Digital Imaginaries.”

From the conference organizers:

We are excited to be hosting IR16 in Phoenix, Arizona in 2015. Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the United States and home to the largest enrollment not-for-profit university in the country. The city and its surrounding communities, collectively called the “Valley of the Sun,” are also home to both a large research industry (especially health and aerospace) and a growing software and internet hosting industry: the world’s largest registrar and web host is based in the Valley.

Of course, this is also a great place to visit. We have warm weather and clear skies most of the year, with the historical average for late October dropping to highs of about 85 degrees fahrenheit (30 degrees celsius). As a result, we have plenty of outdoor activities, including hiking the largest metropolitan park in the US, or one of dozens of other trails throughout the valley. Many of our over 200 local golf courses have won awards. You might also be drawn to the Heard Museum, an outstanding collection of Native American art from across the Southwest, or the Musical Instrument Museum, which is the largest collection of its type in the world and includes the only octobass in the western hemisphere. Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and school, Taliesin West, contains the Wright archives and continues to educate architects and artisans, and the Desert Botanical Garden provides an introduction to the flora of the Sonoran desert and other arid climes. While Arizona is known for its tacos, you might plan a visit to Pizzeria Bianco, which serves a pie noted as the best in the US by Bon Appétit and others, or the widely-celebrated Kai, which presents innovative combinations of southwestern flavors and native ingredients.

The conference will be held at the Embassy Suites Phoenix Biltmore, about a fifteen-minute taxi ride from the airport. The Valley is fairly spread out, but the hotel adjacent to a shopping center, and part of a business and entertainment district with a range of options for dining, shopping, and entertainment. More details will be forthcoming, here and on AIR-L. Until then, we look forward to seeing you next October.
