How Has the Internet Helped with Communication?

By  Mike Bruce

With developments in the internet over the years, there are a lot of ways in which the internet has made things a lot easier for us. For instance, you can use the internet to run your business, you can use it for research purposes or you may even use the internet for your entertainment as well. However, one thing that needs to be pointed out is how the internet has made it a lot easier to communicate with other people.

In order to communicate with other people in the first place, you need to make sure that you have an internet connection that is good enough for you to communicate as flawlessly as possible. Coming back to using the internet for communication, here are some ways that you can use the internet so that you could communicate with other people as effectively as possible:

The Use of Emails to Communicate

Gone are the times when people had to write letters and drop them off at the post office so that their letters could be delivered to the recipients. Even though banks and other organizations use letters even today, much of that has been replaced by the Email system, which is more or less like physical mail, just faster and free. Email was first introduced back in the 90s and ever since then, people have been more inclined towards it than physical mail.

The companies that started off with the email service and are still among the most popular ones are Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft. Google goes by Gmail while Microsoft goes by Outlook and Outlook is mostly used by corporations for smooth communication. Email addresses are also used to sign up for different apps such as Facebook, Netflix, Spotify, and even the PlayStation Store!

Better Collaboration Among People

Communicating through the internet has also made it possible for people to collaborate in a much better way. There are platforms such as Asana and Slack that people use so that they could assign tasks to each other and could also communicate on the update of the status report of the said task. This makes sure that all work gets done on time and there is no miscommunication among people. On top of that, they may also use other platforms to communicate side-by-side such as Skype or even Discord.

Similarly, even schools have started using platforms such as Moodle where instructors can upload tasks and homework and the software could easily calculate the end result as well, leaving instructors with very little left to do.

The Use of Social Media to Communicate

In the past, you had to physically go to places so that you could socialize with people and make a couple of friends. However, all of that has now changed through the introduction of the internet which has made it possible for you to communicate with people through the use of social media. When we say social media, we mean platforms such as Facebook and Instagram that allow us to update people with whatever goes on in our lives.

As an example, let's just say you need to catch up with an old friend from school but can't figure out how to. Now that’s been made easier since all you have to do is head on to Facebook and search for them since it would be very likely that they are on Facebook as well. Similarly, if you just want to keep up to speed with whatever is happening in your favorite celebrity’s life, then all you have to do is to make a Twitter account since most famous personalities are always active on Twitter.

A Much More Sustainable Approach to Things

Another brilliant element of using the internet to communicate with other people is the fact that it is a much more sustainable option as opposed to using paper. In order to create paper, numerous trees need to be cut down but when you keep your means of communication through the internet, you are not using any kind of paper at all. This is great for the internet and could be seen as a more sustainable means of communication.

Similarly, when your letters are delivered to different places, fuel is burnt in order to power the vehicles that deliver your letter. The internet, on the other hand, does not use any form of transport which is why it also saves up a lot of fuel and helps save energy. This is why you should opt for the Internet to communicate rather than physical means of communication.

Wrapping Up

These are some of the ways that the Internet has made communication easier. It is now being incorporated into industries and even the education sector!
